About the client!
The client is a primary healthcare provider serving over 20,000 patients, operating in multiple geographical zones. The client operates a central EHR (Electronic Health Record) system that automatically communicates with insurance providers for processing, verification, and billing. The effectiveness of the system relies on accurately entered ICD-10/HCC Codes for each patient by individual doctors and specialists.
The process of entering codes is cumbersome, and it was very easy to make mistakes. It was observed that the most common error was accidentally leaving out codes from previous years. The doctors and specialists entering the codes felt confused about which new codes to choose, and the process was consuming a significant amount of time that could otherwise be used for patient care.
We recognized that improving the user experience in this case required more than simple design changes and that custom technology would need to be developed to meet the client’s requirements.
The solution consists of 3 parts:
1. A newly designed user interface that simplified the process of entering codes at the clinician level.
2. Suggested codes based on patient history and progress notes.
3. AI-powered suggestions for possible additional codes that may be applicable based on current and historical records.

The CI/CD (Continuous Integration/Continuous Deployment) pipeline is deployed using AWS (Amazon Web Services), and branches are managed using Bitbucket. The project was managed using agile development methodology, which allows for flexibility and quick iteration, which is essential for this project. The project management tool used was ClickUp, which includes our custom automated bug reporting and client feedback process. Communication was also a major concern, considering the different departments had to work closely together, and we found that Discord provided the best communication experience and traceability. Our ability to quickly assemble software development teams for healthcare solutions played a key role in the success of the project.
